Dogs lie in a square in the center of the Albanian city of Durrës, next to the city's largest mosque, the Grand Mosque of Durrës (Xhamia e Madhe). The Albanian government doesn't allocate funds for public dog shelters (in 2018, there wasn't a single shelter in all of Albania). The dogs can be found in various states of disrepair—dirty, tired, and hungry—but there were also some with more energy and seemingly "better fed." Some dogs have a plastic ear clip, a sign that the dog has been sterilized and vaccinated against rabies by the government, Durrës, Albania, March 29, 2024
